The CommonSwap

Sunday November 16th
1pm — 5pm

Stop by on Sunday, November 16th for the FREE CommonSpot Clothing Swap.

Share the FaceBook event with friends!

This is a free event. If you want to contribute, please spread the word about the CommonSpot to any friends who may need a professional place to meet or work downtown. Learn more at CommonSpot.org.

HOW IT WORKS

  • 🙂 Show up. Find clothes you love. Take them home for free. It’s that easy!

  • 👕 Donating is easy but not required! Either text (607) 323-7768 to schedule a drop off and we will organize your clothes, or show up at 1pm Sunday and distribute your clothes into the various labeled areas. See “What to Donate” below.

  • 💪 Volunteers welcomed! It’s fun, we sort clothes to music, and you will have first dibs at any clothes you like!

  • 🕺🏽 The CommonSpot’s private offices will become changing rooms.

  • 💗 Items left over after the event will be sorted and donated to relevant community organizations prioritizing (1) organizations like the Women’s Opportunity Center that support people in need, and then (2) other clothing swaps or events that enrich our community for free, and what’s left will be donated to (3) local non-franchise thrift stores like the Ithaca ReUse Center.

WHAT TO DONATE

  • 👍 YES: Professional or casual, masc or fem, clothing accessories like purses and tie clips, and clean (ie, washed) but wrinkled is totally fine.
    We especially want…

    • 💛 Fall & Winter clothing: Got jackets, hoodies, sweaters, gloves, and other warm clothes that you don’t wear anymore? Let’s get them to people who would love to wear them!

    • 💛 Masculine/men’s clothing: Clothing swaps typically lack masculine clothing and attract very few men, so we’re aiming for more balance. Everyone who wears clothes should feel welcomed here. Um… okay, that came out kinda funny, but it still holds true.

    • 💛 Hangers and reusable bags: Super helpful for these events.

  • 👎 NO: Musty, smelly, stained, or needing repair. If you pull it at of the attic and it smells musty, just run it through the wash.

  • 👌 SURE: Feel free to donate some non-clothing items like blankets and towels, but avoid furniture or other bulky items that cannot be easily packed into a box. You can bring those directly to the Ithaca ReUse Center.

Why swap? Because circulating our unwanted clothes reduces demand for new clothes. On average, Americans buy 5 times as many clothes compared to 50 years ago, and we collectively send 10 million tons of clothes to the landfill every year. Make clothing swaps your primary source for clothes, discover your new faves, and save money! The CommonSpot will host a Fall & Winter clothing swap in about 6 months, and there many more swaps scattered around town.

Why is it free? There are plenty of clothes to go around and The CommonSpot is committed to supporting our community through events like this. A cost for entry would undermine the purpose of the event. The best way to thank The CommonSpot is to spread the word about The CommonSpot services.
